What are the different types of porcelain veneer? Porcelain veneers are made from porcelain ceramics, but the overall type will depend on their porcelain make-up and how they are prepared. In essence there are two kinds of porcelain veneers; feldspathic porcelain veneers and pressed porcelain veneers.
The difference with pressed ceramic veneers like Emax Veneers is that they are first cast in wax prior to being pressed.
Feldspathic porcelain veneers, in contrast, are constructed using ceramic porcelain layers, which are then cured at high-powered temperatures. Lumineers Lumineers are a type of veneers available at our practice. They require little or no tooth preparation, provide high strength and can often last up to 20 years or more. This type of dental veneer is only available from certain dental practices that are registered with the Cerinate Smile Design Studio. This company is the sole producer of Cerinate porcelain, the unique porcelain used to create Lumineers. Lumineers are marketed in many magazines as non preparation veneers and many patients believe this is the case. This may be the case in certain situations but usually a very small amount of enamel removal is required otherwise they may appear a little bulky. Componeers A new and interesting option for same day veneers are Componeers. The pre-shaped Componeer veneers are available in different sizes and are easy to use for single-tooth reconstruction as well as complete reconstruction in the anterior region. Time-consuming forming of the anatomical shape and surface and elaborate trimming are no longer required. Componeer can be customised to individual requirements with composite at any time.
